Dear Visitor

Department for Education (DfE) - Performance Data

Before the summer, I shared the school's end of Key Stage 2 results for 2025. This is the most important set of annual school data as it represents the culmination of pupils' achievement over their whole time in primary school. Outcomes for pupils at the end of Key Stage 2 (Year 6) were significantly higher than local and national average in all subjects and for the two key measures of 1) pupils achieving the expected standard and 2) pupils acheiving at the higher level.

Combined = pupils achieving expected/higher level in reading, writing and maths

GPS = Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling test

Last week, the Department for Education (DfE) published Key Stage 2 school performance tables for 2025 which allows for comparisons between schools and across local authorities. It includes the measure of Results Over Time which averages performance over the last 3 academic years (2023-2025) to give an indication of which schools perform at a consistently high level.

I am delighted to report that, within North Northamptonshire, Grendon CE Primary School ranks:

  • 1st for the percentage of pupils achieving at the expected standard (2023-2025)
  • 1st for the percentage of pupils achieving at the higher level (2023-2025)

Both charts below show the spread of achievement (2023-2025) across all North Northamptonshire schools. Grendon is the bar on the far left.

Christingle

The whole school visited church last week for a special Christingle service.

Huge thanks to St Mary's Church Warden, Deborah Rush, for leading the service and preparing the Christingles with Ann Williams (and Mrs Comery!). The service ended with children lighting their Christingles and forming a ring around the whole church.

Site Security

In line with Department for Education site security guidance, the school has submitted a planning application to replace the existing wooden post and rail fencing with 2 metre high weldmesh (metal) perimeter fencing. Although the planning application does not commit the school to any course of action, its successful approval will provide a timely option if the school chooses to move ahead with the work. Discussions within the governing body around site security have been ongoing for several months and will continue to be informed by safeguarding priorities as well as the potential impact on the local environment. Updates will be shared as the process continues, including when the planning application goes live on the planning portal.

Millie

I am very sad to share the news that Millie the dog has died.

Millie lived in Grendon and loved coming into school to see all of the children - she certainly made herself at home! She had a long-standing medical condition which had always been successfully managed with medication but she suddenly became ill and died on Thursday last week.

Key Stage 1 and 2 teachers have spent time talking to their classes about this today and it has been dealt with very sensitively with time for questions and for children to talk to each other. Millie was 3 years old and, although her life was too short, she lived it to the full and was a very happy dog. Being in school was one of her favourite things and Millie's owners are very grateful for all of the love and fuss (and treats) she received from all of the pupils.
