Grendon Newsletter
  E-newsletter #174 Sunday 7th January 2024

Hello Visitor,

Welcome Back!

xmas collage 23I hope that you all had a happy and restful break. Many thanks for your support throughout last term, particularly for all of our Christmas events. It was great to see so many of you in church for our Carol Service to round off a busy and successful term.

We were all excited to welcome the children back to school on Thursday after the Christmas holidays. Another exciting term lies ahead as we approach the end of current curriculum themes and move onto new ones at February half term.

Staff News

After a term away, Miss Steed returns tomorrow (Monday 8th January) to resume her class teacher role in Pine Class which is very exciting news! So, too, is the news that Mrs Nixon, who has given pupils in Pine a wonderful start to the school year, will continue to teach in Pine Class on Fridays.

School Performance Data

Following a post-covid decline in primary school performance nationally, I reported to you in the summer that Grendon had achieved excellent results across the board, greatly exceeding national expectations overall.

SATs newsletter 2023

In December 2023, The Department for Education published a further analysis of national and school-level data for primary school performance. Grendon CE Primary School compares very favourably both nationally and locally.

Of the 4 published attainment measures, Grendon's performance within the Local Authority (North Northamptonshire) means it is ranked:

1st for % of pupils achieving at the higher level

[Grendon 36%; National average 8%; Local Authority average 5%]

1st for the average scaled score in reading

[Grendon 112; National average 105; Local Authority average 104]

1st for the average scaled score in maths

[Grendon 109; National average 104; Local Authority average 103]

[NB There is no scaled score for writing]

2nd for % of pupils achieving the expected level of attainment

[Grendon 93%; National average 59%; Local Authority average 56%]

Wraparound Care

Drop offAs mentioned before the Christmas break, The Drop Off are now providing after-school childcare. The provision runs each school day from 3.30-6.00pm with bookable sessions from Monday 8th January 2024. There is a flat fee of £12 for the whole session.

The Drop Off will provide food and drink, the idea being that the long session will provide an opportunity for children to have a more substantial meal.

In order for wraparound care providers to be financially sustainable, particularly in small schools like ours, it is vital that parents embrace and use the provision. The Drop Off already provides wraparound care for Little Houghton Primary School and Sywell Primary School and I know that feedback from those parents and the schools is extremely positive. If your child has after-school childcare needs, I would urge you to register with The Drop Off and book sessions.

To register your child and book sessions, please either use the link here or visit www.thedropoff.co.uk

If you have any questions, please contact the school or The Drop Off directly.
